Central Texas Floods — 2025
Responding Today. Building Tomorrow.
The 2025 Central Texas floods became a defining moment for Texas Housing Foundation’s housing mission and long-term organizational focus.
Following severe flooding in Burnet County and surrounding communities, THF worked alongside local organizations and community partners to help families displaced by flooding secure temporary and transitional housing support during the recovery process.
Beginning on the first day of the disaster, THF coordinated emergency motel lodging and housing assistance efforts in partnership with local organizations including Salvation Army, The Ark, Hill Country Fellowship, and other local partners. Over the following weeks, THF continued working directly with households navigating housing loss, displacement, and uncertainty as communities began recovery efforts.
The floods reinforced an important reality for rural Texas communities: housing recovery becomes far more difficult when communities already face limited housing availability before disaster strikes.
For Texas Housing Foundation, the experience helped sharpen the organization’s long-term focus on housing advocacy, attainable housing development, housing innovation, and regional housing resilience strategies designed to help communities strengthen local housing systems before emergencies occur.
The experience also reinforced THF’s belief that housing challenges require both immediate response and long-term planning working together. Communities need the ability to respond to today’s housing crises while also building stronger housing opportunities and resilience for the future.
That philosophy continues to guide THF’s mission today.
